LITTLE RIVER – On Tuesday, the Elyria Christian spikers went to Little River and lost all three sets to state ranked Little River.

After losing a very tight, 23-25, first set the Lady Redskins took care of the Lady Eagles in the final two sets 20-25, 13-25.

“Our girls played two great sets of volleyball,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Jayme Gardner. “We were moving and talking, taking care of things at the net. Little River is a really good team, and I am extremely proud of how the girls handled themselves against them. They stayed up, they stayed together, and they did not let losing get to them. Then, unfortunately, we could not hold that level of play all evening and our third set was an entirely different Elyria team. Pursuing excellence through and through is a big component that we are still working one.”

Ryland Hawkinson led the way for the Lady Eagles as she recorded 13 kills, made nine digs and had three blocks. Julia Allen pitched in with 13 digs and Alexus Swenson made 11 digs and scored three service aces.

In the junior varsity match, Elyria lost in straight sets 17-25, 7-25.

Elyria, now ranked number eight in Class 1A, Division II, was scheduled to travel to Bluestem on Thursday.
