MCPHERSON – On Tuesday, the McPherson Middle School eighth-grade volleyball teams played host to a triangular with Emporia and Salina South where the ‘A’ team split their matches while the ‘B’ team went 0-2.
“A” Team Results: Now 9-1 for the season, the ‘A’ team lost for the first time in 2022 when Emporia beat them in straight sets, 20-25, 22-25.
“The girls put up a good fight against Emporia,” pointed out head coach Christine Pianalto in her post match reflections. “We played hard with a lot of energy, hustling with only six player and no subs again. While we passed and moved our feet well, there were some unforced errors at the net and the service line we couldn’t overcome.”
The ‘A’ team bounced back with a vengeance and hammered Salina South in the second match of the day, winning 25-8, 25-16.
Coach Pianalto concluded her reflections by adding, “We turned it on against Salina South, challenging their receivers with hard serves and hits while playing really well as a team.”
“B” Team Results: the ‘B’ team continued some struggles in losing both matches though both the match with Emporia (22-25, 25-21, 12-15) and Salina South (25-21, 13-25, 5-15) went three sets before losing.
“The ‘B’ team took each game to three sets tonight,” noted coach Tami Malm. “The girls had some really great moments playing as a team, but also made some silly mistakes here and there. We are planning to shake up our rotations a bit to see how it plays out in our upcoming matches.”
The ‘B’ team is now 2-8 for the season.
