HUTCHINSON – Over the weekend on Saturday, the McPherson Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team went to Hutchinson to play in the Hutchinson Tournament and finished third in the team standings.
“The girls had their first tournament of the season and earned third,” noted head coach Shelley Bohme. “The girls played hard in all of their games.”
In pool play, the seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups lost their first match of the day in three very close sets (25-22, 16-25 13-15) to Circle and then followed that up with a straight set win over Salina Lakewood (25-13, 25-21).
Entering bracket play, the Junior Lady Pups lost again, this time to Prairie Hills in straight sets (15-25, 17-25) before bouncing back to recover and finish third with a three set victory over host Hutchinson (23-25, 26-24, 17-15) where none of the sets were decided by more than two points.
Coach Bohme concluded her post-tournament reflections by adding, “Although there were a few times they gave away points, they were able to get several good hits in. They worked well as a team. It was a long day of games, but it gave the girls a lot of time to become a stronger team.
The seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups are now 9-6 for the season.
