ELYRIA – The Elyria Christian volleyball team had a busy last few days, going to the Burrton Invitational on Saturday and splitting four games (2-2) before splitting a triangular on Tuesday at home with Goessel and Peabody/Burns.
At the Burrton Invitational, the Lady Eagles finished fifth for the day but began the day with a straight set (25-17, 25-23) win over Fairfield before losing in three sets to Sterling (22-25, 25-20, 18-25).
In the match with Fairfield, Ryland Hawkinson recorded seven kills, made five digs and had five blocks while her sister Raegan made seven digs and had six blocks.
In the loss to Sterling, Ryland Hawkinson again had a big match, recording 12 more kills, making eight more digs and getting five more blocks. Macy Reiff led the team in digs with 16 while Julia Allen had 10.
Elyria then got humbled playing fourth-ranked in Class 2A, Inman, losing in straight sets 9-25, 9-25. Macy Reiff had the coaches attention with nine digs.
The Lady Eagles finally closed out the Invitational with a straight set victory over host Burrton 25-23, 25-13.
In the final match with Burrton, Alexus Swenson made 11 digs and had three service aces while Ryland Hawkinson and Macy Reiff each recorded five kills though Ryland got six blocks to go with her kills. Laney Reiff led the Lady Eagles in digs with 12.
Returning to their home court on Tuesday, the Lady Eagles split a pair of matches in a triangular with Goessel and Peabody/Burns, losing to Goessel 21-25, 21-25 before beating Peabody/Burns 25-11, 25-20.
Ryland Hawkinson had a huge senior night as she recorded a total of 23 kills while also making 16 digs.
Against Goessel, Macy Reiff made 15 digs and Raegan Hawkinson recorded seven kills while chipping in with some strong stats against Peabody/Burns were Raegan Hawkinson with 13 digs, Laney Reiff with nine digs and Kortney Potter dishing out 11 assists.
