DERBY – In the final triangular of the season on Monday, the McPherson Middle School seventh grade ‘A’ team volleyball scored a clean sweep of a triangular at Derby with Derby and Goddard.
In the first match, the seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups easily beat Derby in the first set 25-10 before holding the home team off for a win in the second set 25-23.
It was a much easier match for McPherson in the second match with Goddard as the Junior Lady Pups won easily in straight sets, 25-14, 25-11.
According to head coach Shelley Bohme, “Lots of positives tonight! We served well in both of our first sets and had several girls get some serving runs in with both matches. We were able to overcome being down 6-13 in the second set with Derby before coming back for the win with some great hustle and teamwork. Out hitting was probably the best it has been all season, helped by great passes and setting.”
Now 15-5-1 for the season, the seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups ‘A’ team will close out their 2022 season by hosting the league tournament on Monday, October 10 at the McPherson High School Roundhouse beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups ‘B’ team closed their season on Monday with a split as they lost to Derby in straight sets, 20-25, 14-25 before going three sets to beat Goddard 25-22, 24-26, 15-9.
According to ‘B’ team coach Katherine Cooper, “As a last night of games, I think the girls did very well. They played hard and were determined to get a win. Against Goddard, the girls were able to get 17 service aces, which booster their morale and helped them get the win. The girls were able to get several tips throughout the night. They also made quick decisions which helped them save the ball and still get points. Throughout the season, these girls have grown significantly as players and teammates.”
The seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups ‘B’ team concluded their season with a record of 11-13.
