            SOLOMON – On Friday, the Moundridge football team went on the road to Solomon and earned a 42-34 win after holding off a late game run by the Gorilla’s.

            The Wildcats jumped out to a first quarter 14-0 advantage after Lane Durst returned the first of his two interceptions 60 yards for a touchdown while Henry Hecox broke lose for a scoring run from 63 yards out.

            In the second quarter, the Gorilla’s scored twice before Moundridge put another touchdown in the books on a seven-yard run. Solomon added one more score before the end of the quarter to tie the game at 22-22 heading into the halftime break.

            Hecox scored a third touchdown on a five-yard run in the third quarter before connecting for an 11-yard pass play to Barrett Moddelmog who took it to the end zone, giving the Wildcats a 36-22 lead heading into the final 12 minutes of play.

            Hecox ran for his fourth touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter to give Moundridge a seemingly comfortable 20-point, 42-22 lead, though Solomon had other plans and they put together two more scoring drives to pull back within eight before time ran out and the Wildcats gained the final eight-point, 42-34 victory.

            While Solomon ran 28 more offensive plays (79-51) than did the Wildcats, the two teams only had four yards difference in total offense with the Gorilla’s gaining 379 while Moundridge had 375. What did hinder the Wildcats was having 14 penalties for a minus-90 yards.

            Hecox had a monster game as totaled 290 yards in offense on his on by completing 11-of-16 passes for 157 yards and running 19 times for another 133 yards. Kaden Elmore ran nine times for 62 yards while Barrett Moddelmog was the active target in the passing game with seven receptions for 103 yards.

            Defensively, Banky Hayes recorded 10 tackles of which eight were solo stops while Moddelmog had eight tackles with six solo. Lane Durst, Hecox, and Joaquin Huff all chipped in with seven tackles.

            The win evens the Wildcat season record at 3-3 as they ready for another road trip next Friday to Goessel. Goessel will come into the game with a three-game winning streak and 4-2 for the season after pounding Pretty Prairie on Friday, 52-6.
