            GOESSEL – Winning their second game in a row the hard way, Moundridge went to Goessel on Friday and out scored Goessel 48-40 in overtime.

            The victory gives the Wildcats a 4-3 mark for the season as they get ready to host Herington on Friday in the final game of the regular season schedule. Herington will come into Moundridge 2-5 after getting a 54-48 win over Solomon.

            Moundridge scored first on a Joaquin Huff one-yard plunge into the end zone and then made the two-point conversion on a Henry Hecox pass to Logan Churchill before Goessel closed out the quarter with a seven-yard scoring run with just :37 seconds left to pull within two at 8-6 at the end of the first 12 minutes of play.

            While Huff scored again in the second quarter on a two-yard run, the Wildcats failed to make the two-point conversion and Goessel put two scores on the board that included one with just 12 seconds left to play in the quarter to give the Bluebirds a 22-14 halftime advantage.

            Coming out of the halftime break, Henry Hecox threw a 10-yard scoring pass to Joaquin Huff and then ran in from one for another score before Goessel found the end zone, giving the game a 28-28 tie before the Wildcats Huff dashed in from six yards out with just over a minute to play, giving them a slim 34-28 lead heading into the final quarter.

            The Bluebirds scored the only touchdown in the final 12 minutes of regulation play and when they missed the extra point kick, it left the game tied at 34-34 at the end of the fourth quarter.

            Goessel scored first in overtime but failed on a two-point conversion when the Wildcats drove in for a two-yard score by Joaquin Huff and when they failed at their two-point conversion the game was still tied at 40-40 in overtime.

            Joaquin Huff scored for the fifth time in the game when Moundridge had the ball again and with Henry Hecox running in the two-point conversion, the Wildcats earned their final eight-point, 48-40 win in overtime.

Between the two teams, 672 yards of offense was put in the stat books as the Wildcats accounted for 324 on 67 offensive plays while Goessel covered 348 on just 47 snaps. 221 of Moundridge’s yards came on 50 rushing attempts while the Bluebirds gained 295 yards running on 44 totes.

Individually, Henry Hecox completed 14-of-17 for 103 yards passing while running for 104 yards on 22 carries. Kaden Elmore ran 13 times for 47 yards and Joaquin Huff toted the ball 10 times for 46 yards and his four running touchdowns.

While Huff had the lone receiving score, Logan Churchill caught eight passes for 67 yards to lead the Wildcat receivers.

On defense, Banky Hayes led Moundridge with 12 tackles of which six were solo stops and one went for a loss of yardage while Lane Durst also recorded 12 tackles with six of those being solo stops. Joaquin Huff chipped in with 10 tackles that included four solo stops and a pair that went for a loss of yardage.
