MOUNDRIDGE – On Friday evening, despite having the ball on offense for three minutes less than visiting Herington, Moundridge still managed to score a dominating 52-12 victory.
With the win the Wildcats are now 5-3 for the season and riding a three-game win streak. They are scheduled to play Central-Burden on Thursday. The Raiders will bring a 5-3 season record into the game.
Moundridge earned their first score of the game in the first quarter when Henry Hecox connected with Kaden Elmore for a 22-yard scoring pass followed by a two-point conversion pass to Logan Churchill, giving the Wildcats an early 8-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the Wildcats added a pair of touchdowns on a six-yard scamper to the end zone by Joaquin Huff and a second scoring pass by Hecox, this time covering 18 yards to Barrett Moddelmog. With Herington finding the end zone as well, the Wildcats went to the halftime break holding a comfortable 24-6 advantage.
Hecox connected with Moddelmog and Logan Churchill for two more touchdowns in the third quarter, this time from 18- and 22-yards out, respectively, giving Moundridge a commanding 38-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Hecox connected with Moddelmog for their second scoring pass and then dove into the end zone from three yards out to give the Wildcats another pair of scores in the final 12 minutes of play. Herington managed a 47-yard score on a pass and catch play, giving Moundridge their final 40-point, 52-12 win.
For the game, Moundridge rolled up 405 yards in offense and 22 first downs on 50 snaps with 323 of that coming on 38 rushing attempts.
Leading the offense was Henry Hecox who only needed seven completions in twelve attempts to throw for 82 yards and four touchdowns while finding time to run for 97 yards on 12 carries. Kaden Elmore was the Wildcats leading rusher as he gained 142 yards on just 10 carries and Paul Grill ran for 46 yards on six totes.
Defensively, Moundridge gave up 247 yards on 65 plays. Leading the defense was Joaquin Huff who recorded 13 tackles of which seven were solo stops while Braden Den Hartog had 10 stops with four being solo and Lane Durst made eight stops.
