LINDSBORG – Smoky Valley closed out the regular season 2022 schedule on Friday evening by scoring an impressive 42-0 shutout win over Nickerson.
The win means the Vikings are now 4-4 for the season as they prep to play Scott City on Friday, October 28. Scott City will enter the game on a five-game winning streak and 7-1 for the season after beating Colby 48-0 on Friday.
Kade Blanchat put the Vikings on the scoreboard just 11 seconds into the game when he broke lose for a 56-yard touchdown run. Trystan Stambaugh plunged into the end zone later in the quarter from two yards out to give Smoky Valley an early 14-0 lead at the end of the first 12 minutes of action.
Smoky Valley put three more scores in the scorebook in the second quarter on a 24-yard run by Justice Autry, a five-yard run from Trystan Stambaugh plus a two-yard dive for a score by Caleb Gustus, giving the Vikings a commanding 35-0 advantage at the halftime break.
After Autry got his second score of the game on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter, the Vikings closed out the final 42-0 victory.
The Viking defense stonewalled the Panthers offense, holding them to just 60 yards on 31 plays, including just eight yards rushing on 20 attempts as Smoky Valley recorded nine stops for a loss of yardage and one quarterback sack. Kade Blanchat led the team with five tackles while both Justin Holt and Alex Grosland had four.
Offensively, Smoky Valley rolled up 340 yards on 51 snaps with 303 of those coming on the ground with 46 running attempts.
Justice Autry carried the ball 12 times for the Vikings and gained 108 yards while Kade Blanchat covered 88 yards on nine carries and Trystan Stambaugh ran for 58 on 11 runs.
Karson Pihl only three the ball five times in the game, completing three for 37 yards.
