CANTON – It was over nearly from the opening kickoff on Friday as the Canton/Galva Eagles celebrated senior night by pasting visiting Rural Vista with a 62-0 shutout.
With the victory, the Eagles are now 8-0 for the season and will begin their run for an 8-Man Division II state championship on Friday when they play host to St. Paul who will bring a record of 4-4 into the game.
The Eagles jumped on the visitors with 48 first quarter points that included a two- and twenty-three-yard scoring runs by Ryder Norstrom, a nine-yard scoring dash from Lane McMannis, and three scoring pass plays from the arm of quarterback Garrett Maltbie to Cason Mastre, covering 26 yards and a pair of touchdown throws to Lane McMannis of 13 and 43 yards. Then when you add in an interception return for a score by Nick Evans and three two-point conversions, you get an opening quarter lead of 48-0.
