            VALLEY CENTER – On Saturday the McPherson Middle School boys wrestling team traveled south to compete in the Valley Center Middle School Wrestling Invitational and brought home a second-place team trophy to go with seven first- or second-place medals.

            The Junior Pups rolled up 186 points to place second to Salina Lakewood who won the Invitational with 196.5 points. Newton-Chisholm, Andover, Wellington, Valley Center, and Andover Central rounded out the rest of the teams participating in order of team finish.

            As for individual results, the Junior Pups scored three first-place medal with Parker Hulvey wrestling at 85, Tracen Williams at 155 and Dylan Hall in the 215 division.         

            McPherson wrestlers placing second included Kynasen Hancock at 80, Noah Garcia at 105, Dane Becker at 120 and Jayse Gunn at 265.

            As a team the Junior Pups scored falls in 21 matches overall.

            “I am very proud of the boys,” said head coach Chet Harlin while reflecting on the invitational. “They battled back from being in fifth place as a team after the first round to get all the way back into second place heading into the finals with a chance to win the invitational itself.”

            Next up for the Junior Pups wrestlers will come on Tuesday, November 8, when they host a dual with Salina Lakewood.
