MINNEAPOLIS – The 2022-23 season is underway and despite having few full practices due to football, the Inman boys basketball team began their season by going on the road and thumping Minneapolis by 27 points with a 51-24 victory.

“We played pretty well tonight for only having three practices under our belt,” noted Teuton head coach Brett Froese. “Thought we move pretty well against their zone defense which I was happy with.”

Jumping out to a commanding 22-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Teutons build their lead to 29 points at 38-9 heading into the halftime break.

Both teams put 11 points on the board in the third quarter as Inman cruised in for the final 51-24 win.

The Teuton defense held Minneapolis to making just eight field goals in the game while Inman connected on 21 shots and went a hot nine-for-eleven at the free throw stripe.

Tanner Heckel led the Teutons in scoring with 21 points while Eli Brunk also reached double figures with 10 and Harrison Brunk had nine.

Coach Froese finished his reflections on the season opener by adding, “Defensively, we got after them pretty good tonight both in man-to-man and zone defenses. We have a lot of work to do but the kids are practicing hard. Tanner (Heckel) kind of set the tone tonight as he is a problem on both ends of the floor for any team.”

The Teutons will be busy in their first full week of the season as they hit the hardwood again on Tuesday at Moundridge for the Moundridge Preseason Tournament with Inman’s first game being a tangle with defending state Class 2A champion Hillsboro.
