GOESSEL – The Little River girls basketball team proved their number one ranking in Class 1A Division I by pounding Burrton in their first game of the Goessel Bluebird Classic on Monday, winning 75-26.
Racing out to a 26-5 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Lady Redskins took a whopping 36-point, 47-11 advantage into the halftime break before cruising in for the final 49-point, 75-26 victory.
Hitting 46% of all shots from the field helped Little River as they also dominated the play in the paint by grabbing 31 rebounds which were evenly divided between 15 on the offensive boards and 16 on the defensive end while grabbing 19 steals as well.
“I thought our defense was really good for the first three quarters,” pointed out Lady Redskin head coach Brent Clark in his post-game reflections. “Alaina (Eck) had a really good game on both ends of the courts and Aubrey (Olander) was a force on the defensive end. It was a great team effort all around.”
Alaina Eck connected for 21 points to lead the Lady Redskins in scoring with Aubrey Olander joining her in double digits with 13 as nine girls put at least four points in the scorebook.
It was a true team effort as eight Lady Redskins dished out at least one assist and seven of those had at least a pair.
Aubrey Olander just missed getting a double-double as she led the team in rebounds with eight while also knocking away five blocked shots.
The Lady Redskins now wait a few days until getting Elyria Christian on Friday in their second game of the Goessel Bluebird Classic.
