GOESSEL – The Elyria Christian boys opened up their games in Goessel at the Bluebird Classic on Tuesday with a 38-point, 58-20 blasting of Burrton.

With the win, the Eagles will now prep to tangle with Little River on Friday. The Redskins are currently ranked number seven in the state.

“It is always good to return to the Goessel Tournament and they do a great job of hosting each year,” noted Elyria head coach Zach Goodrich. “We took on a young team in Burrton and I applaud their coach for getting his boys to buy in and do whatever he asks of them.”

On advantage for Elyria came in their shooting as they connected on seven-of-nine two points shots and when combined with making 13-of-32 three-pointers, still shot 49% for the game from the field.

Thanks to making six three-pointers, Ty Romero led the Eagle sin scoring with 19 while Alex Robertson hit four three-pointers on his way to scoring 12 points and Johnny Unruh used three three-pointers to make double digits with 11.

Landon Schneider and Johnny Unruh led the work in the paint under the basket as they combined to grab 18 rebounds with Schneider snagging 10 and Unruh hauling in eight. Unruh led the team in assists with seven while both Romero and Schneider each dished out five.

Coach Goodrich concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “We shot the ball fairly well throughout the game. I was extremely pleased with Landon (Schneider) as he pulled down 10 rebounds and always gives his best. (Johnny) Unruh played a very complete game as well.”
