MOUNDRIDGE – In their opening game at the Moundridge Preseason Tournament on Tuesday, the Inman boys put on display the reasons they are ranked number two in Class 2A with a 33-point, 53-21 thrashing of Hillsboro.
The Teutons will return to Moundridge on Thursday to tangle with Lyons in their second game of the tournament.
“We played well,” said Teuton head coach Brett Froese. “Hillsboro plays fast and they have good athletes. They really make you concentrate on closing driving lanes while getting out on the perimeter to shut down their top shooter.”
Inman doubled up on the Trojans in the first quarter in taking an early 15-7 lead before stretching the advantage out to 18 points at 28-10 heading into the halftime break.
Staying steady in the final two quarters, the Teutons put up 14 and 12 points on the board while holding Hillsboro to just eleven total to earn their final 53-21 victory.
Coach Froese concluded his post-game reflections by noting, “I thought we were really good and locked in defensively. Guys understood that we had to keep them out of the lane. That in turn set us up offensively and when we moved the ball side-to-side, we were really good. Guys made good hard cuts and we moved well without the ball.”
Tanner Heckel led the Teutons in scoring with 15 with Eli Brunk joining him in double figures with 12 while both Josiah Buller and Zachary Martisko chipped in with eight points each.
