MOUNDRIDGE – On Thursday, the Moundridge girls basketball team struggled with their offense and lost to Hillsboro 45-19 at the Moundridge Preseason Tournament.

Hillsboro led by seven, 9-2 over the Lady Wildcats at the end of the first quarter before racing out to a commanding 18-point, 25-7 advantage heading to the halftime break. The Lady Trojans pushed their lead out to 23 at 37-14 by the end of the third before taking the final 26-point win over Moundridge.

“I am so proud of the way my girls played defense in the first half,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Kaleigh Huxman. “Our goal was to limit touches to their top two players, and I thought we did that. We just could not generate any offense and that took a toll on our defensive effort. We are bringing a lot of new pieces together this year and we knew there would be some challenges with that transition. We will learn rom our mistakes and build on the things we did well.”

Kaelyn Wedel led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with eight points while Cammi Unruh had three with four players each getting credit for two.
