CANTON – On Monday, the Canton/Galva boys scored a runaway home victory over Marion, winning 72-42, a 30-point margin.
On Tuesday, the Eagle boys learned they are now ranked number five in the most recent Class 1A Division I rankings. With their record now standing at 4-1, the Eagles were scheduled to play host to Lyons on Tuesday before going on the road Friday to Centre.
“We had a nice all-around game tonight,” noted Eagle head coach Larry O’Connor as he reflected on the big win. “This is the way I envision us playing once we get healthy and get some practice in. Had a number of kids step up and play some very productive minutes. Defensively, our press wore them down and we put together a very nice second quarter with our press giving us some easy scoring opportunities.”
By the end of the first quarter the Eagles had fallen eight points behind to Marion at 18-10, before the offense caught fire and poured 33 points into the scorebook while holding the Warriors to just eight, giving Canton/Galva a comfortable 17-point, 43-26, lead going into the halftime break.
The Eagles put another 22 on the board in the third as they cruised in for the final 30-point victory.
Garrett Maltbie had a huge game, scoring 25 points and making three three-pointers. Jett Vincent also reached double digits with 12 as eight Eagles put at least a pair of points in the scorebook including Jory Ratzlaff who hit for nine thanks to three three-pointers of his own.
