            CANTON – the effort was there, the final score was not as the Canton/Galva girls could not keep up with Lyons in the second half on Tuesday and lost on the home court by five, 35-30.

            With the loss the Lady Eagles fall to 2-4 for the season as they prep for a road trip to tangle with Centre on Friday.

            “Our effort was there,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Brad Willems. “We did play extremely hard, but we had trouble scoring the ball. Either did not make good passes, did not take the open shot or we missed a lot of open shots. It was a combination of all three.”

            Trailing by three, 7-4, at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Eagles came back to tie Lyons at 12-12 heading into the halftime break. Unfortunately, Lyons outscored Canton/Galva 10-7 in the third quarter and 13-11 in the fourth to hand the Lady Eagles the final five-point loss.

            Coach Willems concluded his thoughts on the game by saying, “I as the coach have to do a better job of putting them in situations to succeed, we need to use this to keep getting better. I was extremely happy with our effort, the girls are playing hard, and they do not ever quit.”

            Trinity Espinoza led Canton/Galva with 10 points while Adi Alcala chipped in with eight and Emerson Hoppes scored six.

            Brecken Pearson led the work in the paint by grabbing 11 rebounds and making one blocked shot. Pearson also topped the team in assists with three and tied for the team lead in steals with Trinity Espinoza as they each had three.
