SEDGWICK – On Tuesday, the Elyria Christian girls pulled away in the second quarter and pushed forward to earn a final 13-point, 34-21 win on the road at Sedgwick.

Now 3-2 for the season, the Lady Eagles will be back on the home court on Friday when they host Solomon.

“It was great to come out of Sedgwick with a win tonight,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “We started the game very slow and could not seem to find the bottom of the net. We did not seem to have a lot of energy for some reason in the first quarter.”

After the two teams played to a 6-6 tie ending the first quarter, Elyria outscored Sedgwick 14-4 in the second quarter to take a comfortable 20-10 advantage heading to the halftime break. In the final two quarters, the Lady Eagles kept the lead plus three points to make the final victory by 13 points.

Ryland Hawkinson led the Lady Eagles on offense by scoring 14 points while Julia Allen just missed double digits with eight. Hawkinson and Allie Stone led the team working under the basket as they each pulled down six rebounds. Stone also led the Lady Eagles in assists with four and steals with four as well while Hawkinson made recorded four blocked shots on defense.

Talking up his team, coach Fields concluded his reflections on the game by saying, “Julia (Allen) did a really nice job of getting the team going with some aggressiveness on offense as she provided a nice spark to get us into more of a rhythm. Allie (Stone) was very efficient tonight while leading the team in assists and steals. She also kept the offense going inn the second half by continuing to push the ball while staying under control. Ryland (Hawkinson) started the game with three quick blocked shots and Sedgwick didn’t attempt a lot of shots around the basket when she was close by for the rest of the game.”
