HESSTON – In a road game at Hesston that was near even up for three quarters, the Smoky Valley girls could not hold off a fourth quarter offensive surge by Lady Swathers and came home with a seven-point, 49-42 loss.
With the loss, the Lady Vikings drop to 2-2 as they prep to play host to Halstead on Friday.
Both Smoky Valley and Hesston put 11 points on the board in the first quarter before the Lady Swathers pulled ahead by one, 18-17, going into the halftime break.
Hesston put one more point to their advantage over the Lady Vikings at 33-31 at the end of three before pulling away late in the fourth and getting the seven-point victory over Smoky Valley.
Adrian Hazelwood led the Lady Vikings in scoring and work in the paint with 24 points and eight rebounds while also blocking three shots. Clara McElroy had the quick hands-on defense for Smoky Valley as she made five steals and hauled in five rebounds. Both Tinley Scott and Nevaeh Spitler helped in the paint with four rebounds each.
