WAKEFIELD – On Friday, the Little River girls traveled to Wakefield and powered their way to a 27-point, 52-25 victory.

With the win the Lady Redskins are now 6-0 for the season and currently ranked number one in Class 1A Division I. They will close out the pre-holiday schedule on Tuesday with a home battle against Herington. Little River will then be off until Friday, January 6 when they will play host to Peabody/Burns.

After jumping out to a 16-8 first quarter lead, the Lady Redskins put a dozen points in the books in the second quarter while the defense held Wakefield to zero, giving them a 20-point, 28-8 halftime advantage.

Wakefield’s offense did not come alive until the fourth quarter, by then the Lady Redskins were well on their way to the final 27-point win.

“Another good team effort win,” said Little River head coach Brent Clark. “I thought we played well for most of the game though we did have to many turnovers in this game. Our defense was good until the fourth quarter as we only gave up 13 points in the first three quarters, then gave up 12 in the fourth.”

Aubrey Olander was the team leader for Little River as she recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a pair of steals and three blocked shots. Alaina Eck tied for the lead in points with 10. Ashley Stephenson directed the offense with a team high six points. As a team the Lady Redskins had ten players collect at least one rebound and seven who made at least one steal.

Coach Clark concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “Evie (Look) and Arika (Feldman) came off the bench and gave us quality minutes in the game. We have a deep bench and all of them can step in at any time. We are off to a great start to the season but will need to continue to improve.”
