ANTHONY – On Friday, the Inman boys traveled to Anthony to play Chapparal in the Heart of America/Great Plains challenge and came home with a slim, five-point, 54-49 victory.
The Teutons are now 5-1 for the season and ranked number three in 2A as they head into the holiday break. Inman returns to the competitive hardwood on Tuesday, January 3 when they travel to Sterling.
“Once again I thought we played pretty well tonight,” said Teuton head coach Brett Froese. “Chapparal has a nice solid team with some really good athletes. Their six-foot-seven guy can really do some different things. He shoots well and tonight he was really active in the post.”
Inman jumped all over Chapparal in the first quarter and took a 12-point, 15-3 lead before the Roadrunners powered back with a 21-point second quarter to pull within one point at 25-24 heading into the halftime break.
Coming out of the break the Teutons pushed their lead back out to seven at 42-35 before they needed to hold off Chapparal in the fourth quarter to gain the final five-point win.
Inman was helped with some solid outside shooting as they connected on nine three pointers in the game, led by three from Eli Brunk who topped the Teutons in the score column with 13 points overall. Joining him in double digits were Tanner Heckel and Josiah Buller who scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Coach Froese concluded his brief post-game reflections by adding, “I thought Josiah Buller was really good for us tonight as he rebounded well and really had a nice floor game for us as well. Looking forward to next week when we can finally string some practices together, but I am proud of our team for being 5-1 going into the break with minimal practice time.”
