LITTLE RIVER – The top-ranked girls team in Class 1A Division I, Little River, closed out their December schedule in strong fashion on Tuesday with a 32-point homecourt take down of Herington, winning 55-23.

With the victory, Little River is now 7-0 for the season and will be off until Friday, January 6 when they will play host to Peabody/Burns.

Little River took an early 10-point, 14-4 lead by the end of the first quarter before Herington showed a bit of offensive light and outscored the Lady Redskins in the second quarter though Little River still went into the halftime break leading by eight at 23-15.

Coming out of the break, Little River’s defense put the clamps on Herington and outscored the visitors 32-8 in the final two quarters to gain the final 32-point victory.

“We didn’t come out and play like we are capable of,” noted Little River head coach Brent Clark in his post-game reflections. “Offensively we struggle early, with turnovers and poor shooting. It was not from a lack of effort; we just were not in our normal rhythm. Our defense was really good except for a few minutes in the second quarter. I am proud of what we have accomplished so far this season. We will enjoy the Christmas break but will be ready to get back at it.”

Aubrey Olander finished the game with a double-double as she led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 14 while also grabbing 10 rebounds to go with a pair of blocked shots. Also reaching double digits in the scorebook were Alaina Eck with 12 and Ashley Stephenson with 11.

Freshman Arika Feldman had a strong game in the paint by nabbing six rebounds and making three steals. Alaina Eck finished the game with five rebounds and led the team in steals with four. Addie Strecker passed out four assists.
