CANTON – On a rare Monday night game, the Canton/Galva girls powered past visiting Burrton to earn a 30-point, 67-37 win.
With the victory, the Lady Eagles have now evened their season record at 5-5 with a game on Tuesday at Solomon to be played.
“Energy was goo again tonight and the ball went through the hoop,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Brad Willems. “We had a nice bounce back win for us! We hit shots tonight and everyone got involved. Our defense was good but still got a few things to work on, we can’t help the other team out by fouling them.”
Canton/Galva jumped out early and took a 12-point, 22-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and then pushed the advantage out to 19 at 41-22 going into the halftime break. Another big third quarter by the Lady Eagles saw them put another 16 points in the scorebook followed up with 10 in the fourth as they gained the final 30-point victory.
Freshman Trinity Espinoza had a big game, hitting on four three pointers on her way to leading the team with 28 points while also dishing out five assists, grabbing five rebounds and leading the team in steals with five.
Mimi Craig also had a strong game, finding double digits in the scorebook with 16 while also pulling down seven rebounds, making four assists and getting a blocked shot.
Brecken Pearson just missed double digits with eight points but did grad six rebounds and made three steals. Lili Espinoza led the team in rebounds with eight while freshman Makinlee Hoppes topped the Lady Eagles in assists with six.
As a team, the Lady Eagles passed out 20 assists on 24 made shots from the field while grabbing a team total of 38 rebounds and making 28 steals. Eight Lady Eagles put points, assists, rebounds and steals by their name in the official stat sheets.
Coach Willems concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “We are already working hard, just need to take the extra step.”
