PEABODY – A big first half propelled the Elyria Christian girls to a huge road win on Tuesday as they pounded Peabody/Burns in scoring a 38-point, 46-8 win.

The win gives the Lady Eagles a 7-2 record for the season as they prep for a road trip to Centra on Friday before competing in the Centre Basketball Classic next week.

Elyria jumped out to a huge 20-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and then shutout Peabody/Burns in the second to take a commanding 30-point, 32-2 advantage to the halftime break before cruising in for the final 38-point victory.

“This was a Peabody/Burns team that is young and just starting up the program again after a couple of years of not having a team,” explained Elyria head coach Greg Fields. “We had a good opportunity to get everyone some varsity experience, and I thought that our younger girls did a nice job of protecting the ball and finding their teammates for some open shots.”

While 10 Lady Eagles put points by their name in the scorebook, only Ryland Hawkinson reached double digits with 10 while both Allie Stone and Addison Swenson each chipped in with seven and Raegan Hawkinson and Mina Aroum had six points each.

Coach Fields concluded his post-game reflections by noting, “Both Grace (Prescott) and Raegan (Hawkinson) led the team with three assists each as we moved the ball well tonight and had a pretty even distribution of points. It was great to see ten girls get in the scoring column.”
