SOLOMON – It was heartbreaking road trip Tuesday for the Canton/Galva boys as they led nearly the entire game before faltering in the fourth quarter and host Solomon took advantage of it to pull out a final nine-point, 48-39 win over the Eagles.
The loss drops the Eagles to 6-4 for the season as they ready for a home game on Friday against Goessel before hosting their own tournament next week.
“We came our flat tonight,” pointed out Eagle head coach Larry O’Connor in his post-game reflections. “We were down two of our starters and just had a tough time adjusting to game situations. Shot the ball well at times, but again did not make plays down the stretch and going just 4-of-14 at the free throw line will not win games.”
The Eagles held a three-point, 13-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter before Solomon bounced back to take a one-point, 22-21 lead heading to the halftime break. Coming out of the break, Canton/Galva pulled back ahead by two at 33-31 heading into the fourth quarter when the Gorillas put 17 points on the board while holding the Eagles to just six, giving Solomon the final nine-point victory.
Jett Vincent led the Eagles with 19 points while Garrett Maltbie finished with 14, no other Eagle scored more than three points.
