INMAN – It was a good night for Teuton basketball on Tuesday as both the Inman boys and girls took care of business at home with decisive wins over visiting Hutchinson Trinity.
In the boys game the Teutons won by 23, 60-37 to increase their season record to 7-2 as they are ranked number two in Class 2A.
The Lady Teutons blasted Hutchinson Trinity in taking a 35-point, 49-14 victory, putting their season record to over .500 at 5-4. Both the Teuton boys and Lady Teutons will be on the road Friday at Marion.
For the Teuton boys, they were tied at 9-9 with Hutchinson Trinity at the end of the first quarter before the offense began to flow and they put 20 points on the board to take a 13-point, 29-16 advantage into the halftime break. Pulling away at 47-22 by the end of the third quarter, the Teutons cruised in for the final 23-point win.
“We played well tonight,” noted Teuton head coach Brett Froese in his post-game reflections. “Proud of the effort though it took us just a little to get going, but we kind of found our rhythm in the second quarter. Played really well in the third quarter and put the game away. Zach (Martisko) had a really good game tonight as he was really good inside for us. He is more than capable of doing that. Eli (Brunk) need to continue to be aggressive on the offensive end as he is a matchup problem for teams when he is focused and aggressive.”
Martisko led the Teutons with 23 points on the night, helped by connecting on nine of ten free throws. Eli Brunk and Tanner Heckel also reached double digits as Eli had 16 and Tanner scored 10.
In the game with the Lady Teutons, they jumped all over Hutchinson Trinity early and took a 14-point, 19-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. After holding on to have a 17-point, 28-11 advantage at the halftime break, the Inman girls came out in the third quarter and not only scored another 15 points, the defense shutdown and shutout the Trinity offense holding them to zero points to give the lady Teutons a commanding 32-point 43-11 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
Suttyn Harris continued to have a super season as she recorded another double-double by leading the Lady Teutons in scoring with 22 points and rebounds by grabbing 10 to go with four steals. Kenna Woods also reached double digits with 10 points.
As a team, the Lady Teutons made 13-of=17 free throws.
