VIKING WRESTLERS EARN 3RD AT HOISINGTON

            HOISINGTON – Going on the road Thursday to Hoisington for the Cardinal Round-Robin Wrestling Invitational, the Smoky Valley boys 12 wrestlers on the competitive mat, earned two Invitational Champions while placing third as a team.

            For the team, the Vikings put up 106.0 points to place third behind host Hoisington (163.5) who won the invitational and second-place Hill City (139.). With 12 teams competing, the other two to round out the top five were Plainville at fourth (102.5), and Anthony/Harper/Chaparral in fifth (98.5).

            Individually, Parker Gardner at 175 went unbeaten with five straight wins to place first while Justin Holt went 4-1 on the day to win at 215. Deonte Crain (106), Connor Barnes (126) both placed second in their divisions and Richard Zeller at 190 finished third.

            Andrew Young and Connor Smith-Bolin, wrestling at 144B and 285B, respectively, won their divisions which were not counted toward the team scoring.

            Next up for the Viking boys wrestling team will be on Tuesday, January 17 on the road at Nickerson.
