            CANTON – At home in front of their home crowd, the Canton/Galva girls earned their third win in a row on Friday as they ran away from visiting Goessel and scored a decisive 25-point, 66-41 win.

            “Our energy and defense was really good tonight,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Brad Willems. “That led to some early buckets as the first half was probably the best half of basketball, we have played this season.”

            The win pushed the Lady Eagles season record to 7-5 as they now get 10 days of rest and prep before playing in the Fairfield Mid-Season Tournament beginning the week of Monday, January 23.

            Canton/Galva raced out to a 17-point, 22-5 advantage by the end of the first quarter and then promptly doubled the output in the second quarter giving the Lady Eagles a commanding 27-point, 44-17 halftime lead.

            After pulling out to a 31-point lead at 61-30 at the end of the third quarter, Goessel was able to chip a few points off their deficit though Canton/Galva hung on for the final 25-point victory.

            Fabulous freshman Trinity Espinoza led the Lady Eagles offense with 24 points while the senior duo of Mimi Craig and Lili Espinoza also reached double figures in the scorebook with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

            Coach Willems finished out his post-game reflections by adding, “It was really good to see things start to come together! It has been building for a little bit and we took a step forward tonight. I am very proud of all the girls as they all work extremely hard, and it is fun to see things coming together. We are off next week before the Fairfield Tournament.”
