CANTON – Bouncing back from their loss to Moundridge in the first game of the Canton/Galva Tournament, the Canton/Galva boys held off a feisty Solomon team to score a 14-point, 60-46 win on Thursday.
With the win the Eagles are now 8-5 for the season and will battle the winner of Thursday game between Sedgwick and Wichita Homeschool for fifth place on Friday.
“Very happy tonight with our overall energy,” pointed out Eagle head coach Larry O’Connor. “Very happy with our young guys coming off the bench and providing some positive minutes tonight.”
After holding a one-point, 15-14, lead at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles continued to hold a slight edge of two points at 30-28 heading into the halftime break. Coming out in the third quarter, Canton/Galva held their led at three before outscoring Solomon 20-9 in the final quarter to earn the final 14-point victory.
Jett Vincent and Wyatt Collins each led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points each while Vincent topped the work in the paint by pulling down eight rebounds. Garrett Maltbie just missed double digits with eight.
Coach O’Connor concluded his brief post-game reflections by saying, “I thought seniors Cason Mastre and Garrett Maltbie had nice floor games by getting guys into scoring opportunities. Jeff (Vincent) had another nice night as well.”
