CANTON – On Friday, the Canton/Galva boys closed out hosting the Canton/Galva Tournament by placing fifth with a late game rally to earn a three-point, 61-58 win over Wichita Homeschool.
Now 9-5 for the season, the Eagles will have 11 days off before getting back on the competitive court on Tuesday, January 31 with a road trip to Herington.
“We played our best basketball of the season,” noted Eagle head coach Larry O’Connor. “We got Lane McMannis back from an injury and he brought back our defensive intensity tonight.”
Jett Vincent led the Eagles in scoring with 20 points as he connected on three three-pointers. Wyatt Collins not only reached double digits in the scorebook with 15 points, but he also recorded a double-double by pulling down a team high 11 rebounds. Garrett Maltbie just missed double figures with nine. Maltbie and Jase Beltz each hit a pair of three pointers while Cason Mastre, Jaden Ediger, and Jory Ratzlaff did as well since the Eagles made 10 three-pointers in the game.
Coach O’Connor finished his post-game reflections by saying, “Wyatt (Collins) had another big night for us with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Jett (Vincent)l, Garrett (Maltbie), and Cason (Mastre) had very good nights at both ends of the court. WE have some young guys stepping up and giving us some very productive minutes. WE have a week off now, so we can get in the gym and work on some weaknesses heading into finishing the season playing our best basketball.”
