STERLING – On Friday, the Smoky Valley girls had a chance to end their run at the Sterling Invitational on a positive note and they did just that by coming from behind to score a three-point, 52-49 win over Kingman to finish fifth at the tournament.
By going 2-1 at Sterling, Smoky Valley is now 6-5 for the season as they prep to play host to Hutchinson Trinity on Tuesday before traveling to Clay Center on Friday.
The Lady Vikings held a seven-point, 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter before Kingman outscored them 19-9 in the second quarter to take a three-point lead into the halftime break. Kingman still held a slim three-point advantage at 37-34 after three quarters when Smoky Valley outscored Kingman by five in the fourth to earn the final three-point victory.
Tinley Scott had a big night for the Lady Vikings in leading the team in scoring with 21 points while Adrian Hazelwood finished with 14.
Hazelwood earned a couple of individual honors in the tournament as she won the girls three-point contest while also being named to the all-tournament team.
