SEDGWICK – The Sedgwick Girls Tournament opened their 2023 version with a McPherson County rivalry as Moundridge out distanced Inman by 23 points to win their first round game 59-36.

“I could not be more proud of my girls for the way they played tonight,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Kaleigh Huxman. “We had a moment of truth last week and these girls responded in the best possible way.”

In the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats took a five-point, 14-9 lead before racing out to a 19-point, 37-18 advantage heading into the halftime break thanks to a 23-point second quarter. Moundridge then outscored the Lady Teutons 22-18 in the final two quarters to get the final 23-point victory.

Coach Huxman concluded her post-game thoughts about how Moundridge performed by saying, “We were relentless on defense which gave us the spark we needed on the offensive end. Any time you have nine kids score good things are going to happen. It was a great team effort tonight and I am just really proud of the girls.”

Nine different Lady Wildcats put points in the scorebook led by freshman Addy Patrick with 20 thanks to connecting on three three-pointers. Kindall Elmore, Emily Durst, and Kaelyn Wedel all chipped in with eight points each.

For the Lady Teutons, both Suttyn Harris and Maci Neufeld scored 13.

Now 4-7 for the season, the Lady Wildcats are scheduled to play Belle Plaine on Thursday while the Lady Teutons drop to 6-5 as they will also battle Belle Plaine but on Tuesday.
