FAIRFIELD – On Monday, the Little River girls began play in the Berean Academy Eli Walter Invitational where they put the offensive hammer to Ell-Saline to the tune of a 26-point, 59-33 win.
Ranked number one in Class 1A Division I, the Lady Redskins are now 11-0 for the season as they ready themselves to play Hutchinson Central Christian on Thursday.
Little River ran out to an 11-point, 19-8 first quarter lead before pushing the lead to 16 points at 35-19 at the halftime break. In the final two quarters the Lady Redskins extended their advantage out to the final 26-point victory.
“We got off to a good start taking a 13-0 lead,” said Lady Redskin head coach in some post-game reflections. “We turned the ball over a lot though, having 27 of them tonight and that is way too many. We looked like a team that had not played in 10 days. We will be better on Thursday. Thursday we will be matched up with Hutchinson Central Christian, a very good and well coached team.”
Alaina Eck was the offensive leader for Little River as she poured 27 points into the scorebook with seven other Lady Redskins putting points on the board led by sisters Aubrey and Havana Olander with eight points each.
Arika Feldman did the main work in the paint by pulling down eight rebounds as seven girls picked up at least a pair of rebounds in the game. Nine Lady Redskins recorded steals on defense as the team totaled 27 steals overall led by Havana Olander and Ashley Stephenson with four each.
