CLEARWATER – On Tuesday, the McPherson Middle School girls wrestling team competed for the second time this season at Clearwater and came home with an overall total of 15 wins and six losses.
Also competing on Tuesday at Clearwater was Haysville and Arkansas City.
Next up for the McPherson Junior Lady Pup grapplers will be on Tuesday, January 31 when they join Abilene, Arkansas City and Clearwater for a meet at Wellington.
For McPherson, the varsity group finished the day with a sparkling 12-1 mark while the junior varsity went 3-5.
“The girls had a great first meet in Newton last week and I think it gave them a lot of confidence coming into tonight’s matches,” noted McPherson head coach Matt McCasland. “We got some jitters out of the way last week and tonight they just stepped on the mat and took care of business.”
Eleven Junior Lady Pups competed and six finished the day at 2-0 including Amara Dossett, Tylee Wilson, Rylee Holt, Amia Barrera-Prado, McKenna Paul and Tempe Bruner.
Coach McCasland finished his post-meet reflections by adding, “Our team continued to set the tone physically. We preach being the aggressor in every match, and our wrestlers have absolutely followed through. We have plenty to work on, but our staff is really excited about this group and how high their ceiling could be.”
