MOUNDRIDGE – Playing at home for the first time since winning the Canton/Galva Tournament, the Moundridge boys won for the fourth time in a row on Friday by pounding visiting Goessel 83-28.
The win moves the Wildcats, currently ranked number six in Class 2A, to 11-3 for the season as they now prep to play host to Ell-Saline on Tuesday.
“We played hungry and aggressive tonight,” noted Wildcat head coach Vance Unrau. “I am always concerned about games that might take us away from what we want and need to do. For the most part we stayed on point tonight but also knowing that some really quality teams lie ahead.”
On the stat sheet, Moundridge shot a blistering 64% from the field while holding Goessel to hitting just 24%, including outscoring Goessel 30-7 on bench points and 16-0 on second chance opportunities. The Wildcats also dominated in the paint by outrebounding the Bluebirds 31-14.
Racing out to a 28-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats lead by 40 at 54-14 at the halftime break before outscoring the visitors 29-14 in the second half and earning the final 55-point victory.
Six of the ten Wildcats that scored in the game finished with double digit points led by Logan Churchill with 14. Both Henry Hecox and Barrett Moddelmog scored 12, Layton Schmidt hit for 11 and ending the game with 10 points each were Landon Kaufman and Kepple Adolf.
Kaufman recorded another double-double in the game as he also had 12 assists. Schmidt led Moundridge in rebounds with six as Logan Churchill grabbed five with a total of 10 Wildcats getting at least one rebound for the night.
Coach Unrau concluded his reflections on the game by saying, “As we enter the final month of the regular season, we need to continue to pay attention to how we want to execute in games at both ends of the floor. I was pleased how our bench came in and closed out the game.”
