MOUNDRIDGE – In a battle of cross county rivals, it was four freshman who helped carry the load in a hard fought, double overtime battle that saw the Inman girls pull away in the end for an eight-point, 57-49 win over Moundridge.

The game bounced back and forth as Moundridge held a slim one-point, 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter before Inman pulled ahead to take an eight-point, 25-17 advantage heading to the halftime break.

After the Lady Wildcats whittled one point off the deficit to pull within seven at 32-25 at the end of the third quarter, they pulled even with the Lady Teutons in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 38=38 at the end of regulation play.

Losing two key players to fouls in the double overtime was costly for the Lady Wildcats as they were unable to keep up with the Lady Teutons hitting their free throws, giving Inman the final eight-point victory.

“It is always an exciting night when Moundridge and Inman face off,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Kaleigh Huxman. “This was a great game and I am proud of the way my girls fought back after being down by seven in the fourth quarter to give ourselves two more chances. Inman hit the shots they needed to down the stretch. I am really proud of my girls and glad we had the opportunity to learn from a game like this.”

Five players between the two teams hit for double digits and four of them were freshman.

For Moundridge, freshman Cammi Unruh and Addy Patrick led the Lady Wildcats with 20 and 17 points respectively.

The Lady Teutons were led by freshman Suttyn Harris who had a monster game as she led the team in scoring with 23 points, rebounding with 11 and blocked shots with four while hitting on 13-of-18 free throws. Maci Neufeld, a senior, also hit for double digits with 17 as did freshman Kenna Woods who scored 14. Both Neufeld and Kenna Woods grabbed six rebounds while Neufeld helped herself by connecting on five three-pointers. Woods went four-for-four on clutch free throws in the double overtime.

Lady Teuton head coach Megan Heckel had a brief but to the point reflection on the game, saying, “the girls played awesome and I could not be more proud of them.”

With the loss the Lady Wildcats fall to 8-8 for the season as they now have a week off before going on the road to visit Hutchinson Trinity next Friday.

The lady Teutons are now 8-7 will hit the final two weeks of the regular season by hosting Ell-Saline on Tuesday before taking to the road on Friday to battle Sedgwick.
