MOUNDRIDGE – On Tuesday the Moundridge girls hosted Sedgwick for their opening game of Class 2A Sub-State and earned a nine-point, 33-24 win.

The victory gives the Lady Wildcats a season mark of 11-10 as they now take their game into a Friday battle with sub-state top seed Berean Academy (20-1) in the sub-state semifinals. If they win, the Lady Wildcats would then battle the winner of the other sub-state semifinal matchup between second seed Whitewater/Remington (16-5) and sixth seed Inman (10-11) in the Sub-State championship and a trip to the state tournament.

“I am really proud of our defensive intensity tonight,” said Lady Wildcat head coach Kaleigh Huxman. “It kept us in the game, even when our shots were not falling.”

Moundridge led by five, 10-5 at the end of the first quarter and held on to a three-point advantage, 13-10 going into the halftime break. After shutting out Sedgwick 9-0 in the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats held off a Sedgwick rally in the fourth to earn the final nine-point victory.

Kindall Elmore led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 11 while Addy Patrick chipping in with eight thanks to a pair of three-pointers.

Coach Huxman concluded her post-game reflections by adding, “It was a hard fought game right to the final buzzer. We are thankful for the opportunity to practice the rest of the week and play another game on Friday.”
