BLANCHAT HITS FOR 15

            HOISINGTON – On Monday, the Smoky Valley girls took to the floor for their first game of Class 3A Sub-State and stumbled for three quarters in taking an eight-point, 47-39 loss to Hoisington.

            With the loss the Lady Vikings close out their 2022-23 season with an 11-10 record. Hoisington (13-8) will now take on Southeast of Saline (18-3) in a Friday semi-final while unbeaten Phillipsburg (21-0) and Norton (13-9) will pair up in the other sub-state semi-final.

            Smoky Valley was tied at 9-9 with Hoisington at the end of the first quarter before Hoisington took a five-point, 16-11 lead heading into the halftime break. Both teams scored nine points in the third quarter and while the Lady Vikings finally got some offense going with 19 points in the fourth, Hoisington also got their offense going with 22 points to hand the Lady Vikings the final eight-point loss.

            The difference in the game appeared in the stat sheet at the free throw line where Hoisington had 29 attempts and made 17 while the Lady Vikings only attempted 16 and made eight.

Katja Blanchat closed out the game leading the team in scoring with 15 points while also pulling down six rebounds and blocking a pair of shots. Eva Malm and Adrian Hazelwood each chipped in with seven and six points, respectively. Tinley Scott topped the Lady Vikings in rebounds with eight.
