LOSE TO BEREAN ACADEMY
By Staff
STERLING – On Friday the Moundridge girls ran into a buzzsaw in Berean Academy and found themselves on the losing end of a 45-20 ballgame, ending the 2022-23 season for the Lady Wildcats.

With the loss, the Lady Wildcats end the season 10-11 but with hopes for next fall as they will return four key players along with an incoming group of eighth graders that finished their season unbeaten. While Kaelyn Wedel will be a senior next fall, the trio of Addy Patrick, Cammi Unruh, and Macy Kaminkow were all freshman this season.
“I am really proud of this group of girls and the effort they played with all season,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Kaleigh Huxman. “There were multiple times it would have been easy to give up, but they never did.”
Moundridge fell behind by 10 by the end of the first quarter and trailed by nine, 22-13 at the halftime break. In the final two quarters, Berean Academy outscored the Lady Wildcats 23-7 to earn the final 25-point win over Moundridge.
No Lady Wildcat reached double digits and they were led in scoring by seniors Reese Schmidt and Emily Durst who both scored six.
Coach Huxman concluded her post-game, post-season reflections by adding, “The girls stayed together and continued to improve as a team. I think that speaks so highly of their character and attitude towards life. I wish Berean Academy great luck as they head to the state tournament. I know they will represent the Heart of America League well.”
