STERLING – On Tuesday the Inman softball team opened their 2023 season on the road at Sterling where they split a doubleheader with Inman winning game one 6-2 before Sterling hammered out a 18-1 win in game two.
“I am very proud of the way the girls showed up for our first game of the season,” noted Lady Teuton head coach Bre Ryan. “After losing all of our games last year, out team was eager to prove that we will be competitive this season. We feel like we have something to prove, and I think tonight was a step in the right direction.”
In game one, the Lady Teutons pounded out 12 hits with Emma Brown getting three and both Chesney Black and Savannah Smith each chipping in with a pair. Alyssa Johnson scored three of the Inman runs as Lexi Hase had a pair of runs batted in.
On the mound, Emma Brown threw a complete game, throwing 104 pitches in seven innings while giving up just four hits no earned runs, walking just one and striking out 13.
Coach Ryan closed out her reflections of the season opening doubleheaders by adding, “Emma Brown had a wonderful showing for her first game back after missing last season with a shoulder injury. Her demeanor and attitude set the tone for the rest of the team to follow, and our bats came alive to give us a lead and some breathing room.”
In game two, the Lady Black Bears jumped all over Inman in scoring 15 runs in the first inning on their way to a three-inning 18-1 win.
Joee Hurley had the only two Lady Teuton hits as the Sterling pitching kept the team in check.
Taking the loss on the mound for Inman was Alyssa Johnson while Hurley game on in relief.
Next up for the Lady Teutons will be a battle with county rival Moundridge on Friday.
