HESSTON – On Tuesday, the Smoky Valley boys tennis team opened their 2023 season by finishing second at the 10 team Hesston Invitational with 32 points.

Kansas City Christian won the Invitational with 46 points while Wichita Trinity Academy was third (26) and host Hesston placed fourth (24).
For the Vikings, they were led by the junior duo of Per Nelson and Nathan Nyquist who took first place by finishing 3-0 on the day in number two doubles and earning the team 12 points.
Junior Keaton Leiker gained 10 team points by placing second in number two singles after going 2-1.
Viking senior, Max Bieker, took fourth at number one singles in finishing 1-2 for the day, earning six team points.
The sophomore duo of Gabe Becker and Zeke Becker placed sixth at number one doubles, going 2-1 for the day and earning the team four points.
Next up for the Viking tennis program will be on Tuesday, April 4 at home.

VIKING SINGLES:
#1 Singles > Max Bieker finished 4th, went 1-2.
#2 Singles > Keaton Leiker finished 2nd, went 2-1.
VIKING DOUBLES:
#1 Doubles > Gabe Becker/Zeke Becker finished 6th, went 2-1.
#2 Doubles > Per Nelson/Nathan Nyquist finished 1st, went 3-0.
