REMINGTON – The Canton/Galva track/field teams were on the road Tuesday at Remington where the Eagle boys finished second to Little River for the team title while the Lady Eagles placed fifth.

For the Eagle boys, the rolled up 58 team points to finish second out of six teams and well behind first-place Little River who had 120.

Lane McMannis was the star of the day for the Canton/Galva boys as he earned three first-place finishes in the 200 meters, and both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. Jett Vincent also gained a first place finish for the Eagles as he won the 100 meters. The team total 11 top five finishes on the day.

In the girls meet, the Lady Eagles placed fifth with 19 points as Little River also won the team title in the girls division by totaling 120 points.

Mimi Craig highlighted the Lady Eagles entries as she won both the shot put and discus while the girls had just two other top finishes with freshmen Jayden Orth (fourth in the discus) and Jordyn Elliot (fifth in the 100 meter hurdles).

“Despite the strong wind several kids had great performances while turning in personal records,” noted head coach Tina McMannis. “Emmer Herrera threw a personal best shot put by two feet and Preston Minson got the discus past 95 feet. I am proud of the effort the Canton/Galva athletes put in to compete at their best.”

Next up for the Eagle tracksters will come on Thursday at Lyons.

Coach McMannis concluded her post-meet reflections by talking about the upcoming week events and saying, “Most of the team will be back in action on Thursday at Lyons though Wyatt Collins, Lane McMannis, Jett Vincent and Mimi Craig will sit out the Lyons meet so they can go to Wichita on Friday for the Shocker Pre-State Classic in the Class 1A-3A division.”
