MOUNDRIDGE – After struggling with defense in the first game, the Moundridge softball team got the bats going in game two only to lose late leaving them with a pair of losses on Thursday to Remington.
In the first game, Remington scored in all six innings, including 13 in the final three to give them a decisive 18-7 win over the Lady Wildcats who struggled on defense as they committed 16 errors.

“We came out flat and could not make a play on defense for some reason,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Lynn Eichelberger. “When you have sixteen errors, you will not win most games.”
Addy Falco was a bright spot on offense for the Lady Wildcats as she went 2-of-3 at the plate with one hit being a home run while also scoring once and swiping a pair of bases.
Emily Durst worked the mound for the Lady Wildcats where she threw a 105-pitch effort.
For the second game, Moundridge found themselves trailing 11-4 through two innings, before getting some offense going and chipping four runs of the lead at the end of the third. The Lady Wildcats put five more runs on the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth innings to take a slim 13-12 advantage into the seventh inning. Remington squeezed across a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the final one-run 14-13 win.
Addy Falco continued to have a huge day as she went three-for-four in game two with four runs scored and four runs batted in while hitting for a double. Lela Winsor began the game on the mound and pitched for a couple of innings before Emily Durst came on for the final five as the two combined to throw 128 pitches, give up eight hits, walk six and strike out just one. They only gave up six earned runs as the Lady Wildcat defense struggled again, this time recording seven errors.

Coach Eichelberger shared his thoughts on the nightcap by adding, “After game one, we switched things up a little and started freshman Lela Winsor on the mound, Our defense let her down and gave up too many unearned runs. We fought back after being down eight runs and even took the lead in the bottom of the sixth.”
The pair of losses drops the Lady Wildcats to 2-2 for the season as they prep for a doubleheader at home on Tuesday, April 11 against Bennington.
Concluding his post-game reflections, Eichelberger stated, “We have a lot of work to do but I am confident we can rebound and we will play better next week.”
