LITTLE RIVER – On Thursday, the Little River softball team hosted Sterling and stumbled twice in losing both game one (11-0) and game two (23-10) of a doubleheader.
The Lady Redskins were unable to get the bats going in the doubleheader opener while Sterling used innings three and four to pour across nine of their 11 runs to get the win.
Jailyn Miller, Kinsley Wohletz, and Ella Stansbury were the lone Lady Redskins to get hits in the game with Stansbury’s being a double.
Wohletz pitched the full game and threw 119 pitches while giving up just five hits and three earned runs, walking six and striking out four as the Little River defense had struggles in committing seven errors in the contest.
Games two saw the Lady Redskins get a bit punchier at the plate as they had seven hits including two each by Jailyn Miller and Ella Stansbury with Stansbury pounding out a double.
Sterling put Little River behind the eight ball early by pouring across 12 runs in the first inning and while the Lady Redskins did get five runs across in the bottom of the first, they were unable to do enough to catch up throughout the game.
Jailyn Miller pitched five innings and both Kinsley Wohletz and Courtney Stansbury split an inning on the mound for Little River.
Now 0-6 for the season, the Little River softball team will play host to Ell-Saline on Tuesday and then go on the road to battle Hutchinson Trinity on Thursday.
