MOUNDRIDGE – It was a good day for the Moundridge softball team as they hosted Bennington and scored a pair of wins to earn a sweep of the doubleheader, 10-0 and 6-4.

With the pair of wins the Lady Wildcats are now sitting at 4-2 for the season as they prep for a road trip to Sedgwick on Friday.

In game one, Moundridge went up 4-0 after two innings and then added four more in the fifth and a pair in the sixth to score the final 10-0 win.

Emily Durst threw an outstanding game on the mound, throwing 92 pitches and giving up just one hit while walking five and striking out seven.

At the plate, Addi Falco and Macy Kaminkow both had a pair of hits with Falco scoring three times. The Lady Wildcats ran wild on the base paths as they recorded 12 stolen bases in the game.

“Emily (Durst) pitched a great game,” noted head coach Lynn Eichelberger. “She only allowed one hit and had good control, being able to hit her spots. Addi (Falco) continued to hit well with a pair of hits and Macy (Kaminkow) also had a multi-hit game while making some nice plays defensively at first base. We cleaned up our double-digit errors from last week, having only one in the first game.”

With the game tied at 4-4 after four innings, Moundridge managed to push across a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to gain the final two-run, 6-4 victory.

Only Emily Durst and Kindall Elmore had hits in the game though Durst and Falco each had a pair of stolen bases.

Emily Durst again had a strong game on the mound for the Lady Wildcats, throwing 101 pitches and giving up seven hits, just one earned run while walking just one and striking out five.

Coach Eichelberger concluded his post-game thoughts by adding, “Defensively we were not as sharp in game two, but we made the plays when we needed to down the stretch. We only managed two hits but manufactured some runs playing small ball and good base running. Defensively, freshman Sam Strausz made some very nice plays at third base. We scored the go ahead run on a dropped third strike.”
