SEDGWICK – On Friday, ahead of the inclement weather, the Moundridge softball team managed to split a pair of close games in a doubleheader at Sedgwick, winning game one 3-2 before dropping the nightcap 7-4.

Now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the last four games, the Lady Wildcats will be back on the competitive diamond Tuesday, April 18 when they host Sterling before traveling to Canton/Galva on Friday, April 21.
“I told the girls we had a good week in going 3-1,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Lynn Eichelberger. “On Friday, we spent time with the elementary students as they came into school, and we even ran a concession stand for a home track meet on Thursday. That is what being a team is all about.”
In game one, Moundridge scored once in the first, fourth and seventh innings to get the one-run, 3-2 victory.
Emily Durst threw a complete game win, throwing 83 pitches and giving up just four hits, a pair of earned runs, walking just one and striking out 6.
As for hitting, Addi Falco and Aubree Durst each had a pair of hits to lead the Lady Wildcat bats.
Coach Eichelberger talked about the first game and pitching when he said, “Emily (Durst) pitched a great game. She had great control and was hitting her spots. Our defense really played well as we made every play that we needed to throughout the game. Reese (Schmidt) had a big two-out hit in the first inning to get us on the board and after Sedgwick tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, Kindall (Elmore) got on base with a walk and in three pitches scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch.”
The Lady Wildcats scored twice to open the first inning in the nightcap only to have Sedgwick put four across in the bottom of the inning. After the Lady Wildcats tied the score with one run each in the third and fourth innings, Sedgwick put three more across in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the final three-run, 7-4 defeat of the Lady Wildcats.
Emily Durst was the lone Lady Wildcat to get a pair of hits and one of those was a double while the bats left 10 runners stranded on base overall in the game.
Emily Durst again worked the mound where she threw 98 pitches, gave up 11 hits, four earned runs, walked just one and struck out five.
Eichelberger concluded his reflections on the Sedgwick games by adding, “Our defense again played really well only having a couple of errors. Emily (Durst) again kept us in the game by not walking batters and making them hit the ball. We just could not get a hit with runners on base, leaving 10 stranded for the game.”
