LINDSBORG – On Friday the Smoky Valley track/field teams hosted a 13-team invitational where the home Vikings finished eighth in the boys competition and third in the girls. The invitational was held in Gypsum due to renovations being done at the Smoky Valley track.

The Lady Vikings rolled up 71 team points to finish third behind invitational team champion Buhler (111) and McPherson (100). Chapman (57) and Scott Community (46) rounded out the top five.

As for individual results, junior Lady Viking Breanne Peters scored first-place in both the 100 meters where she set a new personal and school record, and pole vault (another personal record) plus ran second in the 200 meters while Hope Willems, just a freshman, won the 3,200 meters.

Besides Breanne placing second in the 200 meters, her sister Noelle placed second in the pole vault and Katja Blanchat ran second in the 400 meters. The Lady Vikings ended the meet with 11 individual and one relay finish that earned team points.

For the Viking boys, they placed eighth with 35 points. Southeast of Saline, Chapman, Buhler, McPherson and Pratt ended up first through fifth in the boys division.

While no individual Viking won first, the 4×800 meter relay quartet of Tytus Reed, Ki Blanchat, Karson Pihl and Wyatt Johnson won their event. The 4×400 meter relay was canceled due to lightning.

Justin Holt finished second in the shot put while setting a personal record, and Wyatt Johnson landed third in the 400 meters.
