INMAN – In a battle of two county schools looking for softball success, Inman and Canton/Galva battled it out Tuesday with the Lady Teutons gaining a late game one-run, 6-5 win in game one before the Lady Eagles offense exploded for 30-8 victory in the nightcap.

With the win, the Lady Eagles are now 5-5 for the season as they ready to play host to Moundridge on Friday.

A win in game one helped Inman break a seven-game losing streak giving the Lady Teutons a season mark of 2-8 with a battle ahead against Little River on Friday.

The Lady Teutons took a 3-1 lead in the first inning until the Lady Eagles tied the game in the third. After Inman regained a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth at 4-3, Canton/Galva pushed two runs across in the top of the sixth forcing the Lady Teutons to work for the win with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

While Chesney Black and Kenna Woods went 3-for-3 in the game for Inman, it was Emma Brown who pounded out a three-run home run to set the pace for the Lady Teuton offense. Brown also worked the mound for Inman, throwing 105 pitches while giving up 10 hits, five earned runs, no walks and striking out six.

For the Lady Eagles, Brecken Pearson hammered out a triple as part of her going 3-for-4 in the game while also throwing a complete game on the mound, using 104 pitches to give up 13 hits, five earned runs, four walks and strike out five.

“We continued to hit and put the ball in play all night despite struggling to bring more runs across the plate,” noted Lady Teuton head coach Bre Ryan.  “The girls came up with a lot of focus and confidence at the plate.”

When the nightcap began, Canton/Galva’s bats came alive early as they poured 11 runs into the scorebook in the top of the first and while Inman managed to score four runs themselves in the first two innings the damage was already done. The Lady Eagles added three more runs in the third before pouring across eight more runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings while Inman managed to add four more, it was still a huge 22-run, 30-8 win for the Lady Eagles.

Both Kambrey Woods and Cora Johnson had a pair of hits for Inman, with Woods hammering out a triple and Emma Brown a double. Aoife Turcotte worked the mound for Inman.

Adi Alcala led the Lady Eagle offense in the nightcap, going 4-for-4 while Raegan Hawkinson and Brooke Stephan each chipped in with three hits. Both Lili Espinoza and Cora Schamp hit for doubles and freshman Jayden Orth pounded out a triple. Brecken Pearson pitched for Canton/Galva, using 115 pitches to give up eight hits, seven earned runs, nine walks and four strikeouts.
