            STERLING – On Friday the Little River track/field teams participated in the Sterling Relays where the Lady Redskins won the team title while the Redskin boys were nipped by one point in finishing second.

            For the Little River girls, they won the meet as Bennington, Inman, Sterling and Ellsworth rounded out the top five of a dozen teams competing.

            Havana Olander was a double winner in the field events by winning both the high jump and triple jump while 4×100 meter relay quartet of Alaina Eck, Kami Grasser, Ashley Stephenson and Elsie Boughfman also brought home a first-place medal.

            Ashley Stephenson in the 800 meters, Havana Olander in the 300-meter hurdles, Lucy Wright in the shot put and Kate Ellwood in the pole vault all placed second as did the 4×400 meter relay group of Aubree Olander, Eck, Grasser, and Stephenson.

            In the boys competition, Little River lost out on the team title by just one point to rival Inman. Sterling, Bennington, and Ellinwood rounded out the top five.

            As for the competition, the Redskins were led by first-place winners Braxton Lafferty in the javelin and Andrew Smith in the high jump with Lafferty also placing second in the triple jump, Treyton Olander was runner-up in the 800 meters and the 4×100 meter relay team of Toby Jesseph, Tristan Bristow, Lafferty and Smith also placed second as well.

            Next competitive appearance for the Little River track/field teams will be on Tuesday at the Hesston Invitational.
